What you need:

Crumble

  • 50g/2oz Odlums Porridge Oats
  • 50g/2oz Odlums Cream Plain Flour
  • 150g/5oz Shamrock Golden Caster Sugar
  • 200g packet Shamrock Ground Almonds
  • 175g/6oz Butter
  • 50g/2oz Shamrock Chopped Almonds (optional)

Filling

  • 175g/6oz Blackberries
  • 450g/1lb Stewed Apples
  • Sugar, to sweeten 

How to:

  1. Preheat oven to 190°C/375°F/Gas 5. Place the flour, sugar and oats into a bowl.
  2. Add butter and rub into the dry ingredients with tips of fingers to form a crumble. Mix in the ground almonds and finally stir in the chopped almonds, if used.
  3. Mix the blackberries and apples together and place in an ovenproof dish. Sweeten with sugar to taste.
  4. Spread crumble over the fruit, then bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
  5. Serve hot with custard, cream, ice cream, yoghurt or crème fraîche.

To stew apples

  1. Peel, core and roughly chop apples.
  2. Place in a saucepan with a little water (3 tablespoons approx) over a low heat, stirring occasionally until apples are softened.
  3. If liked, add a pinch of cinnamon to the apples when soft.
