What you need:

* 500g Odlums strong flour, plus extra for dusting

* 75g caster sugar

* 10g salt

* 325ml milk

* 1 free-range egg, beaten

* 100g of dark chocolate chips

* 10g fast-action dried yeast

To finish 

* Golden syrup

* Equal amounts of flour and water are mixed into a paste and placed into a piping bag

How to:

  • Put the flour and sugar into a large bowl and mix them together.

 

  • Then add the salt and yeast, placing them on opposite sides of the bowl so the salt doesn’t kill the yeast.

 

  • Add the milk to the dry ingredients. Add the egg and knead in a stand mixer with a dough hook for 10 mins.

 

  • Leave the dough in the mixing bowl and cover it with cling film for one hour to prove.

 

  • Once proved, knock back the dough punching all the air out.  Now incorporate the chocolate by kneading them into the dough.

 

  • Roll the dough into a sausage shape and cut into 8 even shapes.  
Roll the dough into 8 balls and lay them into the basket of your Airfryer.  Cover once again with cling film and leave to prove for a further 20-30mins.

 

  • When the buns have risen, pipe a cross on each bun with the water and flour mixture.

 

  • Bake for 25-30 mins at 190C until nicely browned. As soon as they come out of the brush with golden syrup and let cool before tucking in.
